ASI Magazines Win Five Folio Awards

Publications recognized for editorial and design excellence


TREVOSE, PA – November 2, 2011 – The Advertising Specialty Institute today announced three of its publications won five national awards for editorial and design excellence from Folio: magazine.

Folio’s awards have long been viewed as the most inclusive and sought-after recognition in the industry, drawing the widest variety of publication types, from B-to-B to consumer to association and custom. ASI magazines competed against more than 2,000 entries and among the best publications in the industry, including Bloomberg Businessweek and Entrepreneur.

Folio: presented two gold, one silver and two bronze awards to ASI’s winning magazines during an awards luncheon in New York City.

“This has been a record-setting year for ASI magazines, and I couldn’t be more proud of our award-winning editorial staff, which won 26 awards this year alone,” said Timothy M. Andrews, president and chief executive officer of ASI. “Our magazines are consistently recognized among the most prestigious magazines being published today because they deliver top-notch reporting and quality design to our readers.”

ASI’s winning magazines are:

Wearables’ “Style Issue” featured an on-location fashion shoot, profiles of the industry’s best dressers and an in-depth look at supplier inventory shortages. “From Seed to Shirt,” a 2011 Neal Award finalist, took a firsthand look at the growing and manufacturing process that turns cotton into apparel.

Counselor’s annual “State of the Industry” issue is a mix of statistics and reported information designed to help readers do their jobs better, in part by creating complete business plans.

For “Behind Bars,” Stitches staff spent a day in Montana Women’s Prison with three inmates convicted of homicide and other felonies who work in the decorating shop. In “The Age of Ornamentation,” Stitches photographed the decorated apparel work of veteran and student fashion and textile designers in an on-location shoot replete with an extensive modern art collection.

Also this year, Stitches was honored as Magazine of the Year by the American Society of Business Publication Editors in the 33rd annual Azbee Awards of Excellence competition. In addition, the ASBPE honored ASI publications with eight national and 11 regional awards of excellence for writing, editing, research, design and photography.

ASI publishes eight catalogs and five magazines in addition to the Successful Promotions Trend Report e-newsletter. ASI publications have won 63 recent editorial awards, including three Jesse H.
